The Marine National Park Headquarters (hereinafter referred to as MNPH) will hold its 6th Anniversary Celebration and Marine Conservation Achievement Lecture starting at 9:00 a.m. on October 4, 2013, at the Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park Visitor Center. Members of the public are warmly invited to participate and join the celebration.
Since its establishment in 2007, MNPH has been responsible for the management of Dongsha Atoll National Park and the planning of other potential marine national parks. As it approaches its 6th anniversary, conservation and restoration efforts in Dongsha Atoll National Park have achieved notable results. MNPH has also actively promoted marine environmental education. Through the anniversary event, the Headquarters will share operational achievements and future prospects, including the vision for the Dongsha International Research Station and experiences in promoting the establishment of the Penghu Southern Four Islands Marine National Park. Speakers will include Deputy Director Lu Chih-kuang of MNPH and Professor Sung Ke-yi of National Sun Yat-sen University, with the aim of transforming marine conservation knowledge into concrete action.
In addition, to further expand marine environmental education initiatives and build upon previous collaborations with the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium and the Kaohsiung City Marine Bureau, MNPH will broaden its scope this year by forming a partnership with the National Taiwan Museum. This collaboration will focus on exchanges, talent cultivation, ecological conservation promotion, and environmental education goals. To encourage public reading, MNPH will also offer its marine conservation publication series at a 40% discount (60% of the original price) at the Interpretation Service Center on the day of the event. Each person is limited to three copies per title. This is a rare opportunity—please do not miss it.
MNPH hopes that through this anniversary event, colleagues will continue to uphold a sustainability-centered management model and work toward building a comprehensive marine national park system in pursuit of the vision of a “Sustainable Ocean.” The event also aims to enhance public understanding of government efforts in marine conservation and environmental education, encouraging everyone to contribute to safeguarding our oceans.
Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park is located at No. 24, Demin Road, Nanzih District, Kaohsiung City, opposite the Kaohsiung Motor Vehicles Office. Visitors may take the Kaohsiung MRT to R21 Metropolitan Park Station and walk approximately 10 minutes from Exit 4 to reach the venue.
