The Marine National Park Headquarters (hereinafter referred to as the Headquarters), in collaboration with the Penghu County Government, will hold a joint book launch event on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. in the Auditorium of the Penghu County Cultural Affairs Bureau. The event will introduce the illustrated books “Stone Old, Stone Ancient · Terns · Coral Sea · Western-Style Houses · Lighthouse · Basalt” and “Grandpa’s Secret Base”, as well as the marine resource series “Hermit Crabs of Penghu.” Members of the public interested in the marine ecology of the Penghu South Four Islands are warmly invited to join and explore this new ocean paradise together.
These two illustrated books mark the Headquarters’ first publications specifically designed for teenagers and children. Through lively and detailed illustrations, multimedia design, and engaging storytelling, the books introduce young readers to the geography, geological features, fishing culture, and island heritage of the Penghu South Four Islands. It is hoped that readers will come to appreciate this precious marine environment in a relaxed and enjoyable way, gain a deeper understanding of island cultural assets and marine biodiversity, and ultimately be inspired to help protect the ocean.

“Hermit Crabs of Penghu” is the result of one and a half years of field documentation conducted by the Penghu County Government on hermit crab ecology in Penghu waters. It is currently the most comprehensive hermit crab field guide available for the region and serves as an excellent resource for marine environmental education. The book combines accessible text with rich ecological photographs, enabling readers to clearly identify different hermit crab species. Through its ecological insights, it encourages readers to protect Penghu’s abundant and beautiful marine environment in an environmentally friendly and sustainable manner.
