In order to protect precious coral reef ecosystems, the Marine National Park Headquarters (hereinafter referred to as MNPH) and the Penghu Symbiosis Algae Association (hereinafter referred to as the Association) installed mooring buoys in Penghu South Four Islands National Park on July 4, 2015. These buoys provide designated mooring points for vessels engaging in water-based recreational activities in the area, preventing anchor damage to coral reefs.

MNPH stated that with the gradual increase in water recreation activities, the frequent anchoring of boats can easily cause extensive damage to the fragile coral reef ecosystems in these waters. Therefore, earlier this month, MNPH worked together with the Association to install mooring buoys in key locations. Two mooring buoys have been installed within the recreational zone southeast of Dongji Islet, and one mooring buoy has been set up in the Special Scenic Area offshore of the Dongyuping Islet harbor. Additional installation sites or adjustments in quantity will be made in the future based on actual needs.

MNPH once again urges visitors entering Penghu South Four Islands National Park to comply with national park regulations and relevant rules set by the Penghu County Government. Operators are also encouraged to exercise self-discipline and provide proper pre-trip education and training for visitors. Only through “respect” can the sustainable development of the Penghu South Four Islands be ensured.
