In order to promote marine environmental education, Marine National Park Headquarters held three activities during summer vacation. The headquarters invited elementary school students, as well as their parents, to go on a one or two-day South Penghu field trip. A total of 103 people had participated the event.
South Penghu includes Dongjiyu, Xijiyu, Dongyupingyu and Xiyupingyu and the surrounding small islands. There are magnificent basalt landscapes, diverse ocean environment and unique culture developed through immigration history. The environment and culture are well preserved due to its remote location and less man-made interference. As a result, this place becomes a paradice for environmental adventures.
Marine National Park Headquarters want to get rid of the transport inconvenience and make the ocean environment for educational purpose. People get to learn using compass on tour oats and know about basalt landscapes and marine abrasion topographies. Children get to learn while playing card games and role play games.
We held the first event with Xinyen Elementary School on June 25th. 38 participants, which includes teachers and students from the second grade to the sixth grade, learned how to locate on sea during the sailing course and witness the breath-taking basalt landscapes of Toujinyu, Dongyupingy and Xijiyu. Toujinyu, Dongyupingyu and Xijiyu's marine cave. In the outdoors, students investigate intertidal creatures in person. After they got back in Dongji Visitor Center, they played the board game, "The Fish Net Crisis" to understand how fishing gears work, types of fishery, and how fishery effects the environment.
