In order to help local residents better understand the planning process and objectives of the proposed Penghu South Four Islands Marine National Park, the Marine National Park Headquarters (hereinafter referred to as the Headquarters) held public briefings on March 15 and 16 in Wang’an and Magong, respectively. Director Yang Mo-lin of the Headquarters and Director Cheng Ming-yuan of the Penghu County Government Agriculture and Fisheries Bureau personally presented detailed explanations of the overall goals and future vision of the project. On March 17, they also visited Dongji Islet and Dongyuping and Xiyuping Islets to provide on-site explanations and respond directly to residents’ questions. Through thorough communication and dialogue, the Headquarters hopes to successfully promote the establishment of the Penghu South Four Islands Marine National Park, safeguard local ecological resources, foster overall regional development, and elevate the South Four Islands onto the international stage.

Director Yang Mo-lin stated that the waters of the Penghu South Four Islands possess abundant marine ecological resources. Appropriate conservation measures would allow fishery resources in southern Penghu waters to develop sustainably. Therefore, the positioning of the proposed Marine National Park emphasizes maintaining ecological integrity, ensuring appropriate management, and safeguarding the reasonable and sustainable rights and interests of local residents, particularly fishermen.

Director Cheng Ming-yuan further explained that the waters around the South Four Islands are less affected by cold-water events and are comparatively rich in marine resources. The planning of the proposed Marine National Park has taken the rights and interests of local residents (fishermen) into careful consideration. It is hoped that, through the establishment of the National Park, the islands’ abundant natural resources can be sustainably utilized and developed. He also encouraged members of the public who care about Penghu’s marine ecology to actively promote and support the initiative.

Finally, Director Yang noted that the “Feasibility Assessment Plan for the Penghu South Four Islands Marine National Park” has received preliminary approval in principle from the Executive Yuan. The purpose of these public briefings is to help residents better understand the proposed national park plan and to gather public opinions, which will be compiled and incorporated into revisions of the park proposal. In the future, the Penghu South Four Islands Marine National Park will be positioned as a model of sustainable ecological islands, promoting resource conservation while safeguarding public interests, developing green energy and environmentally friendly practices, and building strong partnerships with local communities to create a shared and sustainable future.
