Established in June 2014, South Penghu Marine National Park have been devoting themselves to ocean preservation, protecting genetic resources and triggering the spill-over benefit. The goal is to enrich fishery resources and to provide locations for tourist attraction and for conservation. With the establishment of the park, tourists have been increasing drastically, from 4,800 - 8,200 people in 2011 and 2012 to 38,000 people in 2018. Most tourists travel to Wang'an and Qimei Township from Magong South Sea Visitor Center and shortly stop by Dongji and Dongyuping. Locals believe short stays of tourists do not bring economic values.
