The Marine National Park Headquarters (hereinafter referred to as MNP) and the Civil Aeronautics Administration, Makung Airport (hereinafter referred to as Makung Airport) are jointly hosting the “Hidden Treasures · Sustainable Coexistence” Penghu South Sea Four Islands National Park Special Exhibition at the 2nd-floor Cultural Gallery of the Penghu Airport Terminal. The exhibition will run from April 22, 2018 to November 30, 2019. Friends interested in marine conservation are welcome to explore Penghu South Sea Four Islands National Park together.
The South Sea Four Islands were announced as Taiwan’s 9th national park in 2014, and it is the second marine national park following Dongsha Atoll National Park. The park features unique and magnificent basalt landscapes, diverse marine and island ecosystems, and traditional cultural and settlement landscapes rich in immigrant history. Its geological, cultural, and marine resources are well preserved and highly distinctive, offering great potential for promoting marine environmental education.
The 2018 Annual Meeting of the “World’s Most Beautiful Bays” Organization will be held in Penghu. As the key gateway to Penghu, Makung Airport sees heavy passenger traffic. To integrate and showcase regional resources, MNP has specially planned this exhibition in cooperation with Makung Airport from 2018 to 2019. The goal is to allow visitors arriving in Penghu to learn about the South Sea Four Islands National Park through the exhibition, overcoming transportation barriers and helping more people become familiar with the park.
The “Hidden Treasures · Sustainable Coexistence” exhibition features themed areas such as “Paradise of Marine Life,” “Cape Homeland – Cultural Settlements,” “Summer Spirits – Migratory Birds,” and “Marvelous Basalt Landscapes,” highlighting the park’s unique features. Additionally, an interactive area called “Underwater World of Penghu South Sea Four Islands” allows visitors of all ages to create their own marine creatures and place them into the park’s waters, enriching the underwater environment of the South Sea Four Islands. The exhibition runs from April 22, 2018 to November 30, 2019, at the 2nd-floor Cultural Gallery of Penghu Airport Terminal. On the opening day, visitors—both adults and children—can take photos with interactive installations, and small promotional items will be available (while supplies last). Friends interested in Penghu South Sea Four Islands National Park are warmly encouraged to participate!
