The Dongjiyu Beach Cleansing Event

South Penghu Marine National Park is the 9th national park and the 2nd marine national park established in Taiwan. The park includes traditional immigrant culture, terrain landscape and diverse ocean and island environments. The headquarters held the Beach Cleansing Event, expecting to recall the importance of preserving the ocean. In the time ocean pollution becomes serious than ever, they take actions cleansing the beaches to protect the ocean environment.

he headquarters invited members from Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch, Coast Guard Administration, Ocean Affairs Council to participate the event with the Styrofoam recycling technique provider, Hiin, an environmental NPO. They expect to let everyone see the beauty of South Penghu Four Islands and protect the wonder.

A total of 75 citizens had participated the event and 456.5 kilograms of marine debris was collected, which was mostly consisted of Styrofoam and plastic bottles. Thanks for the help from citizens in Dongjiyu, Inspection Office and members from Dongjiyu Lighthouse and Dongji Weather station, Maritime Port Bureau. Special thanks to Environmental Bureau of Penghu County and Marine Civic Foundation for assisting debris recycling. The event ended successfully and the coast is clear.

The ocean near Penghu Four Islands include diverse coral ecosystem and breathtaking Basalt landscape. They need to be taken care of by everyone. Considered of the inconveniency of garbage cleansing and transporting works to be done on the islands, please make sure you take away your own garbage while you’re paying them a visit. The less garbage you leave behind, the less pollution doing harm to the ocean and the creatures.
