The ecological documentary The Ring of South China Sea – Dongsha Atoll, produced by the Marine National Park Headquarters, received the Silver Medal Award in the Educational category at the 50th WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival. This international recognition not only affirms Taiwan’s efforts in marine conservation and environmental education, but also highlights the global visibility and ecological value of Dongsha Atoll National Park.

The film presents the magnificent and precious marine ecosystem of Dongsha Atoll National Park through multiple perspectives, including aerial cinematography, underwater filming, and ground-based documentary footage. It comprehensively showcases the atoll’s unique geomorphology, coral reef ecosystems, seagrass beds, and rich marine biodiversity, vividly portraying Dongsha as a vital ecological stronghold in the northern South China Sea.

Located in the northern South China Sea, Dongsha Atoll is Taiwan’s first national park established primarily for marine ecological conservation. It features a complete atoll formation and exceptional biodiversity. Through scientific research findings and compelling visual storytelling, the documentary introduces Taiwan’s achievements in marine conservation, resource management, and environmental education to the international community, while emphasizing the importance of sustainability and ecological protection.

WorldFest-Houston is one of the longest-running and most prestigious international film festivals in the United States, attracting entries from around the world each year.
