The Marine National Park Headquarters (MNPH) has published the photography book “Secrets of the Atoll: Serenity – Dongsha” this year (2020) to help the public better understand Dongsha Atoll National Park. Through the lenses of professional photographers and MNPH staff, the book unveils the hidden charm of Dongsha, offering readers a rare glimpse into the beauty of the atoll.

Dongsha Atoll National Park, Taiwan’s seventh national park and the first marine-type national park, is characterized by its unique atoll landscape, colorful coral reefs, seagrass bed ecosystems, and coral sand islands. The park currently focuses on environmental conservation and restoration as well as advancing marine academic research, and public visits to the islands are not yet permitted.

To highlight the park’s natural elegance, the book features a pure white cover with an embossed atoll outline. Inside, specially selected paper mimics the texture of Dongsha’s coral sand, allowing readers to both see and touch the beauty of the islands. The pages showcase the vibrant coral reef ecosystem, capturing fish swimming gracefully among the corals. The book also presents the surrounding seagrass beds and interactions between species such as the sharp-toothed lemon shark and cobia, illustrating the rich biodiversity of the region.

The book is available for purchase starting January 1, 2021, at National Bookstore, Wunan Cultural Plaza, San Min Bookstore, Youth Bookstore, Kaohsiung Wild Bird Society, or MNPH Interpretation Service Centers. A 10% discount is offered at the MNPH service centers. Digital versions and other MNPH publications can also be viewed on the MNPH website under the Publications / E-Books section.
