On March 23, 2016, when the Coast Guard Administration of Executive Yuan and MNPH were enhancing law enforcement at sea, they discovered that a steel vessel, "Qiong-qiong Hai-yu 05055", registered in Mainland China, was illegally extracting coral, capturing and dissecting green turtles, which are protected species. Their act was a huge threat to the eco-system in the national park. In addition to escorting the fishermen to Taiwan, the Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office prosecuted those involved in the case based on the law. It is has a deterrent effect to those fishing boats that cross border without permision and engage in illegal activities.

Dongsha Atoll is under the jurisdiction of Cijin District, Kaohsiung City.
